The British Albanian beauty hosted “Saturday Night Live” for the first time, then threw a free concert in Times Square in the rain on Sunday.

Monday she attended the Met Gala and then threw her first afterparty at Rob Toma’s Hearsay in the Meatpacking district, holding hands with her boyfriend, “Fantastic Beasts” star Callum Turner.

Sam Smith was the first one in the club as soon as it opened at midnight. Dancing with their boyfriend, designer Christian Cowan, they got the place jumping. The couple were still wearing their finest from the Met Gala.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez rolled in for a brief appearance around 1:30 a.m. They were followed by seven bodyguards.

Less protected were Baz Luhrmann and Kenan Thompson.

Lipa, wearing a short skirt and a sheer black top, seemed in a great mood and gave props to her sometime musical collaborator, Black Coffee, who spun for two hours followed by DJ Mink.

Everything is coming together for Tony Spiridakis, a filmmaking refugee from Hollywood who moved to the North Fork of Long Island.

When the abandoned century-old movie theater in Greenport faced the wrecker’s ball, Spiridakis secured $1 million from 900 individual donors to rehab the theater.

In a case of perfect timing, after 12 years of struggle, “Ezra,” a story inspired by his life as the father of a neurodivergent son, will debut at the renovated Sapan Greenport Theatre on May 31st.

The movie stars Spiridakis’ best friend Tony Goldwyn, Robert De Niro and Bobby Cannavale.

RICHARD JOHNSON: Britney Spears’ spending out of control post-conservatorship https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/05/05/richard-johnson-britney-spears-spending-candace-bushnell-threesome/ Sun, 05 May 2024 11:00:39 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7668041 Britney Spears’ father Jamie might have been right about keeping his daughter in the conservatorship that guarded her money for 14 years.

The court finally freed Britney to spend her dough, and she’s reportedly been squandering her savings on private jets and tropical vacations.

“People who know her father Jamie feel that he will be vindicated in the end,” one source said.

“Unless she cuts down on her spending, she’ll either have to go on tour or do another residency in Las Vegas,” said my source.

The pop star, who recently finalized her divorce from her third husband, Sam Asghari, was staying at the Chateau Marmont this week — where even the cheapest rooms are more than $600 per night — though TMZ reports the stay was cut short.

Spears left the hotel late Wednesday night, the outlet says, after some guests alleged she had an altercation with new boyfriend, Paul Richard Soliz. Paramedics were called, but the “Toxic” singer left with her own security team according to TMZ. She later said on social media that she twisted her ankle and implied the incident was all much ado about nothing.

Candace Bushnell shocked fans at the opening of her show at the Carlyle Hotel when she confessed to a threesome with a woman and her boyfriend, late photojournalist Gordon Parks, when she was19 years old.

“Gordon asked me if I’d have a threesome with a friend and I said, ‘why not?’ The next morning, I noticed that the hundred-dollar bill that was in a crystal ashtray was gone. I said, ‘Gordon, why is that hundred-dollar bill gone? and he said, ‘Well, that woman was a prostitute.’”

That was the beginning of the end, said the “Sex and the City” creator.

At the finale, Bushnell brought her two standard poodles, Pepper and Prancer, on stage and said they were all living in a suite with room service at the Carlyle for the run of her show.

Mark Green is worried.

The former New York City Public Advocate, who once ran for mayor and lost to Mike Bloomberg by two points, warns that Donald Trump’s re-election will lead to fascism.

Green held a book party at his downtown loft for his latest, “The Inflection Election: Democracy or Fascism in 2024?” and told his guests: “Trump is an aspiring American fascist.”

At the launch held on Tuesday, Green asked, “Who here knows what April 30th is?” No one knew.

“On this day, 79 years ago, Hitler died. I was born in March. He died the next month.”

Green didn’t equate Trump with Hitler, but noted their similarities.

While he was “unhappy” when Richard M. Nixon was elected president in 1968, “this is totally different. This isn’t politics-business as usual,” Green said.

In the crowd were current Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, former congressmember Liz Holtzman, former City Council Speaker Corey Johnson, Councilmember Erik Bottcher and Allen Roskoff, who heads the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club.

Green, who called Trump “a chesty Caesar,” said every guest would get four copies of his book so they could spread the word by giving copies to friends.

Kennedy told them, “President Biden is the spoiler. He cannot win. I can win. I can win decisively.”

The invitation did not list Kennedy’s wife, Cheryl Hines, nor any of his seven children, and no one expected to see his 96-year-old mother or any of his ten siblings in the room.

RICHARD JOHNSON: Oscar nominees Cathy Moriarty, John Savage head cast of NYC indie ‘Beyond the Rush’ https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/04/07/richard-johnson-2/ Sun, 07 Apr 2024 12:00:03 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7620424 Audiences will get a rush from “Beyond the Rush,” a movie filming on the streets of New York.

First-time director-writer Rob Sayegh has assembled three Academy Award nominees — Cathy Moriarty of “Raging Bull” fame, John Savage of “The Deer Hunter,” and Eric Roberts of “Runaway Train.”

The cast includes Mena Suvari of “American Beauty” and Frankie Faison (“Do The Right Thing”) with the lead role played by Bill Barrett.

Also of note, Sean Fosse, the grandson of late dance legend Bob Fosse, will be making his big screen debut playing a prosecuting attorney.

The soundtrack will include a song by Bee Gee Barry Gibb. And celebrating 35 years of Twisted Sister, Dee Snyder sings the film’s title track.

Vernon Reid of Living Colour will play guitar on the track and will also co-write the film’s score alongside Public Enemy guitarist Chris Munger, who is also the film’s music supervisor and co-producer.

PR man Jesse Nash’s song “A Mother’s Love” will play over a key scene.

“We are the little film that could,” laughs directorSaye gh. “What I hope to achieve, besides telling a great story by great performers, is that there is always a choice in life, and that no matter how bad it seems, there’s always the possibility for a hopeful ending.”

A prominent Beverly Hills plastic surgeon tells me a little nip/tuck goes a long way — but too much Botox isn’t always a good thing for actors.

“I have a lot of celebrity patients,” says Dr. Jason Champagne, “And they still need to emote.”

The man responsible for Chrissy Teigen and Meagan Good’s eyebrows says many actors overdo it.

Chrissy Teigen attends the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar party on March 12, 2023 in Beverly Hills.

“They still have to be able to move their face,” he adds. “The goal should be to have lines but not as deep.”

Champagne says he can tell “bad plastic surgery” when he sees it. For that reason he doesn’t watch red carpets at award shows, “unless I have patients there,” he says with a laugh.

His specialty is chin implants and what he calls “Champagne Brows” that takes hair from the back of the scalp and intricately places it on existing eyebrows. That’s the procedure he says Mrs. John Legend drops in for, and “Harlem” actress Good too.

“Some trends on social media have become problematic though,” he cautions. A lot of people want ‘buckle fat’ removed now. “It’s a little fat pad in the cheek, but if you take it out some patients can look ‘hollow’ as they age.”

His simple advice is to talk to a lot of people before doing anything. “The onus is on the practitioner to do the right thing for the patient in a conservative way that looks natural and doesn’t look done.”

And yes, he still does use some Botox on patients. But with caution. “I don’t want that frozen look. I ask patients to move their foreheads, raise their eyebrows and scowl,” he says. “I look to see how strong those muscles are and then decide how much to use.”

Professional gambler R.J. Cipriani rebuffed Mark Wahlberg’s company when he was asked to be in “California Kid,” a documentary about the rise and fall of USC football player Owen Hanson.

“I refused to be in the docuseries without an executive producer credit or fee,” Cipriani told me.

Next thing he knew, producers were searching for photos or videos of Cipriani.

Cipriani was copied on an email the “archival producer” for Piece of Work Productions sent out that read, “There is a subplot in this story that involves RJ Cipriani. We are interested in viewing your photos of RJ for possible use in our documentary.”

Cipriani, hired by Hanson to launder millions of dollars at casino games, turned the drug dealer over to the feds.

Hanson, originally sentenced to 21 years in prison, is now set for release next year, after having nine years shaved off his sentence.

“I personally reached out to Mark Wahlberg and his agent Ari Emanuel,” Cipriani said. “I let them both know I am the ‘secret sauce’ for this project and without me, this docuseries will be just a nothing-Wahlburger.”

RICHARD JOHNSON: ‘Oppenheimer’ set to blast away its Oscars competition https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/09/richard-johnson-oppenheimer-set-to-blast-away-its-oscars-competition/ Sat, 09 Mar 2024 20:03:30 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7570439 “Oppenheimer” will blast away the competition at the Academy Awards on Sunday night.

Danny Sheridan, my favorite oddsmaker and Oscar handicapper, is 27-3 over the last five years in the main six categories and predicts the epic drama about the controversial scientist known as the “father of the atomic bomb” will dominate the major categories.

“The only suspense of the night should be Best Actress,” said Sheridan, who is picking Native American Lily Gladstone, who played Leo DiCaprio’s wife in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and has already won the Screen Actors Guild prize.

She is up against Emma Stone of “Poor Things.”

“[It’s] the closest vote of the evening, the old guard vs. the new guard of Academy voters,” Sheridan said.

Otherwise, not much suspense. “Oppenheimer” wins Best Picture. “You can’t stop a speeding bullet,” Sheridan said.

Three more Oscars will go to “Oppenheimer” as Christopher Nolan wins Best Director, Cillian Murphy wins Best Actor, and Robert Downey Jr. wins Best Supporting Actor.

“If this were a horse race where they play the starting trumpet, there would only be one horse in the starting gate,” Sheridan said.

DaVine Joy Randolph will win Best Supporting Actress for “The Holdovers.”

So, “Oppenheimer” will win four of the top six Oscars, according to Sheridan.

Cathy Moriarty, who grew up in The Bronx, isn’t a big fan of Staten Island.

But the actress, who exploded into stardom playing Jake LaMotta’s wife in “Raging Bull,” filmed the second season of “Great Kills” there.

“I didn’t want to do it. I’m too lazy. I don’t go to Staten Island for anything,” Moriarty told me.

But her friendship with the show’s producer and star, Steve Stanulis, won out.

Great Kills is a neighborhood in Staten Island, but also refers to the plot. Stanulis is a hit man being shot by documentary filmmakers. Moriarty plays a mob boss.

The cast, which includes Bai Ling and Eric Roberts playing himself, improvise and create their own dialogue.

“We have a structure of what the scene should be, and then we wing it,” Stanulis said.

In one scene where Moriarty seemed particularly emotional, “I was getting scared,” Stanulis said. “But she took it and owned it, and ran with it.”

“Great Kills,” a Tubi original show, was ranked No. 3 on the top 50 new shows of 2023. Season 2 will be released in the fall.

RICHARD JOHNSON: ‘Saltburn’ fans mimicking Barry Koghan’s infamous nude dance https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/03/02/richard-johnson-saltburn-fans-mimicking-barry-koghans-infamous-nude-dance/ Sat, 02 Mar 2024 21:00:37 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7551695 “Dunkirk” star Barry Keoghan, who posed unclothed for Vanity Fair’s video cover, also made a big impression when he danced naked in the hit movie “Saltburn.” Very big.

The hard-bodied heartthrob has inspired thousands of fans to descend upon the film’s location in a tiny village in North Hampshire, England. The hunk’s admirers have been stripping down and dancing naked in front of the 700-year-old mansion where the movie was shot.

The streakers have been videoing themselves dancing to “Murder on the Dancefloor” by Sophie Ellis-Bextor, just like Keoghan did in the film, which features several murders and lots of kinky sex scenes. The most infamous one being where he drinks the bathwater of “Euphoria” star Jacob Elordi’s character.

The estate and the 150-room mansion are not open to the public, but the movie’s devotees have discovered a public trail through the property that allows them to Instagram photos of themselves in front of the stately home.

The country house’s owner, Charles Stopford Sackville, has called in security to keep the trespassers off his property, but because of the public trail, he can’t stop them. The hordes have only increased since “Saltburn” was released on Amazon.

The film has been a huge hit with audiences, but received zero Oscar nods for director Emerald Fennell, who won an Academy Award for the “Promising Young Woman” screenplay in 2023.

French fashion designer Claude Montana, who died last month at the age of 76, wasn’t mourned by those who loved his wife Wallis Franken.

In 1996, the fashion model jumped out the kitchen window of the second-floor Left Bank apartment she shared with her husband and fatally landed on her head.

“It was the most upsetting story I have ever reported,” said Dana Thomas, who wrote up the tragedy for The New Yorker.

“Claude Montana was a drug-addled, physically violent monster who drove his American fashion model wife to kill herself.”

Thomas posted her story on The Style Files on Substack. “I’m not putting it behind the paywall, because Wallis deserves to have her story told to as many people as possible,” Thomas said.

A portrait of Pierre Toussaint has been placed on permanent display inside St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Toussaint (1766-1853) was born a slave in Haiti and died a free man in New York, after raising funds for the first Catholic orphanage and founding the city’s first school for black children.

The Toussaint portrait by Hunt Slonem was donated to St. Patrick’s by the artist and it was blessed by Cardinal Timothy Dolan after a mass at the cathedral.

Toussaint’s remains were moved in the late 20th century from the cemetery of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral on Mulberry St. to the crypt below the main altar of St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Ave. He is the first layperson to be buried in this special place normally reserved for bishops of the Archdiocese of New York.

“I feel a very strong connection to Pierre Toussaint, and I’m very thrilled to see the painting at St. Patrick’s,” Slonem said. “It’s not just me doing it, I believe it was just God’s will that I was blessed to be asked to do it.”

RICHARD JOHNSON: Megyn Kelly calls Trump a ‘walking ball of charisma’ https://www.nydailynews.com/2024/02/17/richard-johnson-megyn-kelly-calls-trump-a-walking-ball-of-charisma/ Sat, 17 Feb 2024 22:37:28 +0000 https://www.nydailynews.com/?p=7524127 Megyn Kelly doesn’t miss the bosses she had at Fox News and then NBC News.

“When I left NBC, I was sitting on my couch thinking, I don’t know if I want to go back into the industry at all. It’s full of toxic, disgusting people,” she told Arthur Aidala on his podcast “These City Streets With Arthur Aidala.”

“I can’t imagine working for another person who’s going to tell me I have to follow his editorial judgment, not my own. And in the mainstream, there’s nothing but that.”

Kelly is happy these days podcasting “The Megyn Kelly Show” that airs live daily on SiriusXM.

Explaining the popularity of Donald Trump, she said, “The No. 1 thing he does is, he is entertaining. I’ve called him the walking ball of charisma, because the best way to get coverage on any outlet, whether it’s digital or print or cable or broadcast, is to be someone … who drives the numbers. Because most of these people are capitalists and they want money.

“And that means putting on things that rate or get clicks or do well. And Donald Trump is that in every way, shape and form. So that’s the best thing he does. That’s why he got $3 billion in what’s called earned media in the 2016 election.”

Getting praised for her acting by Robert De Niro gave Laura Ault “a special feeling,” she said.

De Niro, who has been Oscar-nominated eight times, lauded Ault for her scene in “About My Father,” where she plays an overly cheerful person to De Niro’s grump.

“He came over and told me how great I did,” Ault said. “Not everyone can say that.”

Ault, a very fit mother of two daughters, said she is often told she’s a ringer for Kristen Wiig.

Doing a scene for the “Bad Monkey” TV series starring Vince Vaughn, Ault asked Alex Moffat, a “Saturday Night Live” alum like Wiig, “Do I remind you of anyone?”

Moffat drew a blank.

“It was windy. My hair was blown cross my face, … He was a lot of fun.”

“Wayne’s World” director Penelope Spheeris got her first Hollywood break producing comedian Albert Brooks’ early work on “Saturday Night Live.” But there now seems to be no love lost between the pair.

He used all the crew I brought him … that was kind of s—-y.”

Spheeris said that Brooks’ friend Rob Reiner made a documentary about Brooks, “Defending My Life.”

Princess Diana’s iconic sapphire-and-diamond engagement ring has inspired a new generation of brides because it was featured on the final season of “The Crown.”

The 12-carat ring was left to Prince William much to the reported chagrin of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who had to settle for a less historic stone, a 3-carat diamond valued at approximately $200,000.

William used his mother’s ring, valued at $400,000, when he proposed to Kate Middleton, who wears it every day.

Grooms looking to impress their fiancées can now buy another storied sapphire that was owned by American aristocrats Alice and Pierre du Pont, of the famed chemical family. In 1937, the couple were on holiday in Ceylon (Sri Lanka), where they asked to see the most important gem in the country.

They ended up buying an incredibly rare 24.20-carat sapphire. The stunning stone, known as the Du Pont Sapphire, was transformed into a ring surrounded by nearly 4 carats of diamonds.

M.S. Rau is selling the ring for $2.4 million. It’s available online and is also being shown until Tuesday at the Palm Beach Center.

Brave New World used house porches on a tree-lined street in the Ditmas Park section of Brooklyn as the stage, with the audience of hundreds seated in the closed-off street.

Some 19 years later White is nearly naked showing off his muscles in ads for Calvin Klein underwear.

He should come in March when Brave New World Rep kicks off its 2024 season with a new play, “Leni’s Last Lament,” which has Hitler’s controversial filmmaker, Leni Riefenstahl, portrayed as a misunderstood victim as she attempts to edit and reassemble her notorious past into a more palatable portrait.

Anh Duong — who’s been a ballerina, a fashion model and a movie actress — is a painter now, and her favorite model is herself.

“I had models once, but they were always late, or sick,” Duong told me. “So I decided to use myself.”

A show of Duong’s recent works opening Feb. 8 at Isabelle Bscher’s Galerie Gmurzynska on E. 78th St. includes a painting of herself in the arms of a young man.

The image poses the question, “How far can you lose control and still be in charge?” Duong said.

She won’t name the stud. “The guy exists, and he knows he’s in the painting, but I’m not going any further.”

“We were at the Warhol estate in Montauk. Julian saw a sketch and said, ‘You should be a painter.’ The next day he bought me canvases.”

But Schnabel never tried to teach her. Duong said, “He didn’t influence me. He inspired me.”

Italia Tornabene embraces her colorful history as a porn star without reservation.

Her memoir “Suits to Stilettos” details her journey as a determined single mother navigating through higher education, earning an Associate’s in business administration management, a Bachelor’s in legal studies, and a Master’s in criminal justice.

She candidly discusses misconceptions about the sex industry: “There’s a lot of misunderstanding about this line of work. It’s not just physically demanding; it’s a mental and emotional marathon. It’s a pity that our society, and its laws, are so rigid and outdated regarding adult entertainment.”

Reflecting on international perspectives, she adds, “My friends in Amsterdam and Germany view it as a normal career path, a consensual choice between adults. I hope our society can eventually adopt a similar, more open-minded stance.”

As a survivor of sexual assault, Tornabene discovered unexpected healing in the sex work industry. It was there that she found peace.

“It provided a safe space for me to reclaim my body, my voice, and my sense of self,” she said.

Vernon Reid and Corey Glover of Living Colour say their songs are shunned by Black entertainment outlets in the mistaken belief that they composed “white people” music.

“It’s hard enough to live in places where you expect white supremacy, but not from your own people,” Glover said.

The rock quartet issued a statement earlier this week to Guitar.com while doing interviews for their European leg of their tour with Xtreme addressing Lenny Kravitz’s recent complaints that he was being overlooked at awards shows hosted by the black entertainment industry.

Kravitz told Esquire: “To this day, I have not been invited to a BET thing or a Source Awards thing. And it’s like, here is a Black artist who has reintroduced many Black art forms, who has broken down barriers — just like those that came before me broke down. That is positive. And they don’t have anything to say about it?”

In an Instagram post, Living Colour vocalist Glover wrote of Kravitz: “Black organizations in the entertainment industry never really sought him out.”

“Lenny was right,” Glover continued, “None of us has been … acknowledged for our achievements. Living Colour in the past has worked with such historical luminaries as a Little Richard and Mick Jagger. We’ve worked with a hip-hop royalty from Queen Latifah, Doug E Fresh, Chuck D & Flava Flav to Run DMC. And yet there’s barely a mention of rock’s contribution to what is modern black music.”

“It’s been our experience that most people of color have no idea how deep and far reaching the influence of Black people [is] in the modern-day rock ‘n’ roll … let alone it’s impact on R&B and hip hop. What we hear is ‘that’s white people stuff’ when in fact, it is not!”

Powerful music lawyer Allen Grubman — who has represented Lady Gaga, Bono, Madonna, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John and Sting — was attorney Arthur Aidala’s first guest on his new video podcast, “These City Streets.”

Grubman told Aidala how he got to meet Frank Sinatra because he represented Princess Stephanie of Monaco, the daughter of Grace Kelly, who was launching a singing career. Sinatra was Stephanie’s godfather.

Stephanie got Grubman tickets to see Sinatra sing at Carnegie Hall and told him, “I’ve spoken to him about you, and he’d love to meet you.”

“After the concert, they took me upstairs. People were milling around. He opened his dressing room door. I walk inside and there’s Sinatra wearing a bathrobe, towel around his neck, slippers, vintage Sinatra.

“So after about two, three minutes, I see it’s winding down. And I said, ‘Can I call you Frank?’ … He said, ‘Call me Mr. Sinatra.’

“In those days I represented Madonna, Bruce Springsteen and I rattled off four superstars and I looked at him and said, ‘You know something, Frank? I’d give them all up in a minute to represent you.’ And he looks at me, he says, ‘You know something, kid? You’re stupid.’”

This interview will be followed up by chats with New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, former governor Andrew Cuomo, and his former secretary, author Melissa de Rosa.

Martín Rodríguez is about to hit it big as a hit man in the Sofía Vergara-led Netflix limited drama series “Griselda” from the team behind “Narcos.”

Set to premiere on Jan. 25, the based-on-real-events crime series follows the life of Griselda Blanco (Vergara), a devoted mother who created one of the most profitable cartels in history and became “The Godmother” of the underworld.

Argentina-born, Spain-raised Rodriguez plays her right-hand man and enforcer Rivi in Miami during the ‘70s and ‘80s cocaine boom.

“He was more than just a hit man,” Rodriguez told me. “He is completely fascinated by her, willing to do anything for her.”

At the annual PNC Championship at the tony Ritz Carlton Grande Lakes golf club in Orlando, professional golfer Lee Trevino was asked by Joan Jedell’s Hampton Sheet‘s youngest contributor, Bobby Love, if he would consider doing a sequel to “Happy Gilmore” since the movie “inspired” so many junior golfers.

Trevino, 84, who made a memorable cameo in the 1996 film as a disapproving golfer, told the inquisitive youngster that he was asking the wrong person and that he should call Adam Sandler — the star of the film.

Trevino quipped, “Make sure you tell him that Trevino says you gotta do another one because I need the money.”

Okay Adam Sandler, the (golf) ball’s in your court.

Gurney’s, which plays host to the likes of Cindy Crawford, Scarlett Johansson and Jimmy Fallon, will offer its pampered guests a polar bear club swim in the frigid Atlantic the morning of Jan. 1. I think this reporter would rather be drinking mulled wine in a heated igloo.
